Southwell Scout Group is lucky enough to be based in our own recently upgraded, purpose-built HQ in a lovely location overlooking the playing fields of Southwell's Memorial Park on Bishop's Drive, just on the edge of the beautiful Trent Valley countryside.
Every week more than 160 young people aged 6-20+ meet to enjoy the Everyday Adventure that is Scouting! They are helped by a team of around 24 led Scout Leaders, led by our Group Scout Leader Gazelle (Alison Sutherland) who give up their time freely and willingly. All leaders undertake Scout Association training and have gained DBS (CRB) clearance.
Typical activities include Muddy hikes, Astronomy, Treasure Hunts, Geocaching, Backwoods Cooking, Water Rocket Firing, Tent Packing & Pitching, Firelighting and Challenge nights. We have two big parades per year to mark St George's Day and observe Remembrance Day. Each section also undertake camps and sleepovers. We are very active in the community and each year we organise a Christmas Card delivery service and Charity Hamper Raffle in addition to helping to support local charity events.
The Scout Group is managed by an Executive Committee made up of leaders, parents and other adults with an interest in Scouting. We are always on the look out for new leaders and welcome all offers of help and expertise in running the Group.
The HQ consists of a large hall with kitchen and toilet facilities and a small upper room suitable for small meetings. There is an open area at the rear and a large car park next door. The building is situated on the recreation ground with plenty of grass space.
The HQ is used by clubs and societies outside Scout section meetings. It may be booked for children's parties and other events subject to availability.
